Tankokai is the membership organization of the Urasenke school of Chado, established by the 14th-generation Grand Tea Master, Tantansai.
The Urasenke Seattle Chapter was founded in 1971 and was renamed the Chado Urasenke Tankokai Seattle Association (commonly known as the Tankokai Seattle Association) in 2005, in alignment with the global Tankokai organization. In 2008, the Seattle Association was recognized as a registered nonprofit charitable organization.
Our mission is to advance understanding and appreciation of Japan’s rich cultural heritage and spiritual tradition through the practice of Chado, the traditional Japanese Way of Tea.
The Tankokai Seattle Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting practitioners of the Urasenke school of Chado, as well as individuals and communities interested in the Way of Tea throughout the greater Seattle region. As a registered nonprofit organization, all contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
